Industrial Doctorate Centre

The Industrial Doctorate Centre (IDC) in Machining Science offers talented graduates the opportunity to learn and earn at the cutting edge of manufacturing engineering.

The IDC is jointly operated by the AMRC and the University of Sheffield Faculty of Engineering, with the support of EPSRC and industrial partners. It provides a four-year Engineering Doctorate programme combining taught modules with original research addressing real business problems.

Sample projects include:

  • High speed machining of titanium and other aerospace alloys
  • New techniques for machining carbon fibre composites
  • Surface and microstructure behaviour of advanced materials
  • Extreme deep hole boring techniques
  • New approaches for cost engineering and technology development

Research is based at the AMRC with Boeing and Nuclear AMRC, giving students the opportunity to gain practical experience with our state-of-the-art facilities while carrying out original applied research for world-leading engineering companies. As well as having tuition fees paid, students also benefit from a tax-free stipend of £15-20,000 per year.

We are currently looking for talented and ambitious graduates to enter the IDC programme in September 2012.
