AMRC Forum - Opportunities for manufacturing in the construction sector

02 October 2018 - 02 October 2018

The way we construct buildings has not changed in 40 years and the construction sector suffers from unpredictable delivery, low profit margins, an aging workforce and a poor image.

Government has launched Transforming Construction, a challenge fund that aims to transform the sector –enabling it to produce safe, healthy, efficient building using the latest digital manufacturing techniques.

Targets are to make step changes in performance, including construction that is 50% faster, 33% cheaper and with half the lifetime carbon emissions. Introduction of innovative techniques like off-site manufacture, on-site assembly and digital manufacturing can make this achievable and will also have significant implications for areas like skills, recruitment and business models across the sector and throughout the supply chain.

Join us on October 2nd, 9.30am to 12pm to hear Mark Farmer, author of the influential Farmer Report ‘Modernise or Die’, give an overview of the sector. He will be joined by Laing O’Rourke, CITB and AMRC’s Integrated Manufacturing Group.
