Transform your Business – Using Thin Wall Machining Analysis to Speed Up Time to Market

18 November 2021 - 18 November 2021

Thin wall machining poses challenges for the manufacturing community. The complex interactions between the micro-geometry of the tool and the chosen toolpath strategy impact the part quality.

Join us for an in-depth, hands-on, classroom-style workshop led by machining innovators who will teach you to achieve productivity and identify solutions to the problems through machining modelling. You will walk away with the understanding that with the right combination of tooling, toolpath, and machining analysis, you can uncover opportunities and innovate to become the best-in-class machining organization.

Agenda

8:45 am – 9:00 am: Welcome and Registration

9:00 am – 9:20 am: Introductions by Third Wave Systems and AMRC

9:20 am – 09:50 am: Why Thin Wall Machining Improvements?

AMRC is leading an effort to identify the best practices for thin wall machining in the aerospace industry. Attendees will get a deeper insight into the problem and the approach adopted by AMRC to develop machining best practices for thin wall components.

09:50 am – 10:25 am: How Production Module Analysis Drives Time-to-Market

Analyzing toolpaths to gain insights – Users will gain an understanding the power of toolpath analysis using Production Module with sub-rotational level of details to understand the complex interaction between tool, toolpath strategies and the workpiece.

10:25 am – 10:45 am: Break

10:45 am – 11:30 am: Insights into Efficiency: Making Toolpath Analysis Part of the Workflow

Learn to setup the project in simple step-by-step manner in Production Module. The integration with multiple CAM systems simplifies the process further.

11:30 am – 12:00 pm: Leveraging TWS Partnership Experience

Understand how companies that machine have used machining modelling to improve their profitability by delivering on savings beyond just cycle time and tool life.

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm:  Lunch

1:00 pm – 1:45 pm: Insights into Strategy: How to Optimize Tool Selection

One key challenge for users is to fine turn the process parameters for their specific applications. While cutting tool companies provide good starting points, it is difficult to fine tune the parameters for a specific material alloy that needs to be machined. This session will cover how you can study the micro geometry of the tools like edge preparation, chip breaker geometry, rake angle, etc. to understand trends and make the right selection for your specific needs.

1:45 pm – 2:15 pm Innovation in Machining Modeling Capabilities

In this session attendees will get a preview of upcoming developments for machining modelling with focus on using the data for distortion and deflection analysis.

2:15 pm - 2:30 pm: Break

2:30 pm – 3:30 pm: Experience the Future of Innovation: AMRC Tour

Attendees are invited to tour the machining facilities at the AMRC. The machining group combines the use of computer-based models with machining tests to investigate alternative machining processes, helping companies make more informed decisions. These models reduce the need for costly shopfloor trials and shorten the lead time in bringing a new product to market.
