22nd International Conference on Manufacturing Research 2025

10 September 2025 - 12 September 2025

Sharanjeet Kaur, AMRC's cognitive robotics & automation lead engineer
Machine learning-based generation of personalised ergonomic work envelopes for human machine interaction using virtual reality

The International Conference on Manufacturing Research (ICMR2025) will take place from 10th to 12th September 2025 at the University of Birmingham, UK. It will include keynote presentations by internationally renowned researchers and industrialists, as well as papers from academia and industry, exploring all core areas of advanced and digital manufacturing engineering.

As part of the event, Sharanjeet Kaur, AMRC's cognitive robotics & automation lead engineer, will be doing a presentation entitled "Machine learning-based generation of personalized ergonomic work envelopes for human machine interaction using virtual reality".

Sharanjeet's presentation is for anyone interested in a novel way of looking at human-robot collaboration. While humans and robots often work in isolation, researchers from the University of York and the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) have developed a new method for creating ergonomic models using machine learning.

This personalised approach can predict an individual's ergonomic score during human-robot handover tasks, making it more inclusive and accessible. What's more, the data can be collected in virtual environments, which is a safe and inexpensive way to conduct trials before any physical implementation.
