AMRC chief executive to step down

Steve Foxley is to step down from his post as the chief executive officer of the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) to take up a new role as chief executive at the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult.

Steve joined the AMRC, part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, in January 2020. He was appointed to lead the AMRC management team, having previously held leadership positions at Siemens UK and Ireland, working in the UK, Europe and China.

He will take up his new role at ORE Catapult in early 2025.

Professor Koen Lamberts, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, said: "I would like to thank Steve for his outstanding leadership of the AMRC over the last five years. In that time, the AMRC has gone from strength to strength, growing its impact in the region, nationally and internationally.

"It is a testament to Steve's drive, passion and innovation that the AMRC was able to secure Composites at Speed and Scale - its largest ever collaborative research and development project - and played a critical role in bringing the UK's first Investment Zone to South Yorkshire. Steve leaves a remarkable legacy, and we are putting in place arrangements to build on his exceptional work.

"The AMRC is an extremely important part of our University, and our focus is on its continued success and impact in the years to come.

"We wish Steve the very best in his new role."

Steve, a mechanical engineer by background, said: "I am incredibly sad to leave the AMRC. It has been a privilege and pleasure to be part of the team here. I am extremely proud of what we have achieved together, delivering impact for the manufacturing sector with benefits for businesses, families and communities across the UK.

"The team at the AMRC is exceptional and I have no doubt it will continue to deliver brilliantly for the country and our global community of businesses from our bases in South Yorkshire, Wales and Lancashire."

Following his departure, the AMRC will be led in the interim by Professor Geraint Jewell, Vice-President of the Advanced Manufacturing Group at the University of Sheffield.
